Toyota Camry facelift launched in India for Rs 28.8 lakh

The Toyota Camry facelift has been launched in India for Rs 28.8 lakh  (ex-showroom Delhi) for the standard version and Rs 31.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the hybrid version. It mostly gets cosmetic updates both inside and outside but remains the same mechanically. The car was unveiled last year at the 2014 New York Auto Show and is currently on sale in most of Toyota’s global markets.

The facelift now moves the Camry exterior in line with the Japanese automaker’s current design philosophy which it debuted with the Corolla two years ago. Changes to the exterior include a revised grille and front bumper which now have a large amount of chrome to increase the premium appeal of the vehicle. The side profile remains the same save for a new design for the alloy wheels and the addition of some new skirts. The design of the rear has been carried over from the current car. However one of the major changes is that the head lamps, tail lamps and DRLs have now become full LED units.

Changes to the cabin include blue mood lighting, slight change in the design of the dashboard, digital display in the gauge cluster and a better screen for the infotainment system. The overall layout of the elements has been carried over from the outgoing model.

Mechanically the Camry has not changed. It still makes use of the 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 179bhp and 233Nm of torque. The Hybrid too makes use of the 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine but is now tuned to produce 202bhp and 270Nm of torque. The standard car is mated to a six-speed AT sending power to the front wheels while the hybrid gets a CVT and electric motor. The Toyota Camry competes in the D+ segment with the Skoda Superb.
