Deadpool Is Even More R-Rated Than We Thought

Controversial Cut Scenes Could Make For X-Rated DVD Extras

Questions have been raised as to whether Deadpool could get a parallel PG-13 rated release since its R-rating was announced. On the contrary, director Tim Miller confirmed that the release we’ll see has been toned down. A lot.

It’s hardly surprising that such an infamously sordid anti-hero like Deadpoolwould court controversy, especially with the felicitous Ryan Reynolds steering the Wade Wilson ship.

In Fact, Some Of Reynolds’s Ideas Had To Be Cut For Being Too Mean

At the recent fan screening in New York, Miller confirmed that “a bunch of stuff” had to be cut, including lots of violence from one particular fight scene. Furthermore, an entire scene was cut due to Reynolds and co-star T.J. Miller going too far. The director said:

“That bar scene was particularly mean and offensive to a lot of people because T.J. and Ryan got together and wrote a version of the scene that we just said, ‘Oh my God, this is too far.’

“We couldn’t do it. It was just mean and so I said, ‘No. We don’t have to do that.’”

And that wasn’t all. We get to see T.J. Miller and Ryan Reynolds trade off hilariously vulgar insults in the red band trailer. Yet, believe it or not, this was the stuff that was tame enough to include.

Some Of The Material Was Too Controversial For Theaters

T.J. Miller admitted the exchanges got more and more heated. He said:

“Ryan’s a very, very good improvisor, and he’s very funny and one of the sweetest guys. It was very heavy duty.

“There were some riffs [such as]: ‘You look like a trucker took a shit on your shoulders and then shaped ears onto it’. We’re missing some of those things.”

The Good News Is, They Could Feature On The DVD Extras

Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that the DVD will have a shit ton of extras, so hopefully we’ll be able to see all of the improvised insults when the home release is ready.

Either way, we can be sure we’re going to see the Merc with the Mouth in all his glory.

Now, is it too early to talk about a sequel with an X-rating?!
