Being friends with a sarcastic person is not easy – they’re mean a-holes with smart-alecky remarks about everything. We do not know if they are just wired differently than the rest of us nice people, or if it just a mask they put on as a form of self-defense like Chandler, but it is as annoying as it is hilarious hanging out with this lot. Here’s why.
1. You can never get a straight answer from them on the first try.
Good luck trying to wrest an honest opinion out of them on whatever it is you are asking – because these people do not understand straight talk. After cracking all the jokes in their inventory, they will probably calm down and tell you if that shirt looks nice on you or if you should switch jobs.
2. You always have to read between the lines when they say something.
You constantly have to second guess their seemingly obvious statements – because deep down you know that their sarcasm renders them incapable of saying something simple without a couple of layered meanings.
3. You worry about introducing them to your family or other friends.
It’s all fun and games being around them till you have to introduce them to people who are not aware of their devilish personality, not knowing when it will be unleashed on the poor unsuspecting souls. In fact, you have to prep your friend to be nice before you let them meet your family and other friends.
4. You sometimes lose patience with their sharp tongue.
There is never a dull moment when you’re in the company of a cheeky friend, but you can sometimes lose your temper when you are trying to be serious and they carry on their sarcastic banter. Like, seriously!
5. Their words can sometimes be hurtful to you, even though you know they’re not mean.
The problem with sarcastic people is they do not know when to turn it off sometimes – and end up hurting a lot of people in the process – you too. They do not really mean to hurt you; it’s just the way they are.
6. They can be a killjoy with their jaded outlook on every damn thing.
Nothing is good enough for this eye-rolling, smirking lot with their jaded nature – and they can sometimes be a buzzkill, especially when you’re planning to do something or go somewhere all together. Once they switch off their sass buttons and get on board, they’ll probably be having more fun than everyone else later. Mmhmm.
7. It gets annoying when you do not have ready retorts to their wisecracks.
When it comes to friendly banter, these people own it. It would be so good for once to beat them at their own game with a ready retort, and it’s annoying when you cannot deliver. So when someone else finally shuts them up, it’s totally satisfying.
But you know deep down that while they might have a lot of sass on the outside, they have a heart of gold inside. And, no matter how mad they make you, they’ll be your friend always.
