Things Every Man Should Know Before They Shave Down Below

Grooming below the belt is becoming more and more popular by the day. It hails not just from the need from women to have men who have shaved or waxed because they hay, but it also hails from the need from men to be cleaner, and less scruffy down there. We get it. In fact, it’s appreciated. After all, what man, in today’s day and age wants to seem ungentlemanly, even if it’s just in that aspect?
Cueing in on this trend, here’s what every grown-up man out there should know about shaving down below before getting to it.

1. Trim Your Bush

It’s a given that your mane is running wild, just like Tarzan in the jungle. So, before you decide to shave those pubes, you need to understand that you don’t just drag a lawnmower over every overgrown patch. You prune at the strays first. In your case, use a trimmer to cut back on the hair length. Using a razor usually gives a much smoother finish. Just like with your beard; same logic. Of course, be careful while you’re snipping. You don’t want those pointy ends snipping off the goods.

2. Uniform Is Key

What this means is simply that don’t just trim the pubic hair between your legs. Move it up to the areas around your stomach and chest as well. This is just so you don’t look like a grizzly bear up top and barren land down below. Keep the trim even, even if you don’t plan to shave post the trimming. Don’t cut it too close in any of the regions nevertheless.

3. Shower And Shave

If not for the sake of your body, then for the sake of your sack. Splashing them with cold water before you shave them will keep them looking and feeling a lot smoother. You could also shave them while you’re in the shower so you can save yourself from the double work. The cold water acts as a softener on the skin and hair down there, making it less harsh and brittle to manage. We suggest you use a shaving gel that’s transparent so you can see where the razor is going. Remember to use short and gentle strokes because, you know. And just like with your facial hair, always apply some aftershave balm down there to soothe the skin.

4. Make It A Routine

The whole point of manscaping down below, effectively, is to make it a point to do on a regular basis; just as you would with your beard. You don’t expect to do it the first time around and hope that it’s going to stay that way. Also, because the next time it grows back, it’s probably going to be a lot bushier and more brittle. So, doing it on a regular basis will ensure that your pubes don’t spiral out of control; pun absolutely intended!

5. Go Bare

If you’re when of those men who like to, or would in the near future, go absolutely clean down there, that is, not a speck of hair, never, ever resort to a DIY. Call in the professionals who would be able to do a much better, safer and cleaner job without making it look like a scene right out of the Saw Series. There are a handful of really elite parlours and luxury barber shops that offer these services for men. You can try out places like Truefitt and Hill, Magnifique or F Salon which give you quite an array of options to choose from.

6. Don’t Be Sore

There is something called intimate chafing—it is when the skin rubs against itself to create friction, and thereby, itching. This could happen a lot if you’ve just waxed, or shaved because you are more likely to be aware of your skin being in such close proximity to, well, your skin. It gets worse if you perspire a lot, or if you play sports that cause you to run a lot. Itchiness and redness can lead to a lot of discomfort and even pain. We don’t want that. So, once you have shaved, or waxed, make it a point to keep a skin antiseptic handy with you. You could also opt for baby wipes, or a nappy rash cream that is usually available at your friendly neighbourhood chemist. Look for creams that cure rashes, surface wounds and mild skin conditions. You should also opt for briefs, or trunks which help keep your goods in place without too much movement, instead of boxers which allow for freeway space that cause more skin rubbing.

7. Smell Right

Your bodily odour is only human and natural. It’s perfectly normal to smell musky down there. It has to do with a particular kind of sweat gland that is only present around your genitalia and that secrete a mixture of particular fluids that cause you to smell the way that you smell. It’s also a good sign because it tells you that, “Hey, you’re absolutely normal and probably aroused right now.” But, needless to say, sometimes you want to smell like there’s a garden growing down there and that’s great. It shows that you like to smell good and feel clean and fresh. One way to achieve that is by splashing water on your goods whenever you frequent Mr Loo. Besides, you can always opt for products that are created to let you smell and feel fresh—you could try various powders that are talc-free, body washes that aren’t too harsh and if you want to be really meticulous, there are certain undercarriage-crafted products that help you achieve the same result. Just never use a deodorant, or a cologne down there. You may never survive it. (We’re kidding. You will survive but it will be bad). Also, it can end up smelling really bad.
